Congratulations to the NSW players and members selected in the Australian U20 Men and U19 Women’s teams for the Oceania IHF Trophy being currently underway in Wellington New Zealand. Seeking a new Junior Development Officer

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

NSWHA is seeking applications for the above vital position within our organisation. Whilst currently a volunteer position, there is the potential for this to become a paid position in 2015. Additionally, the role may be shared by a small team of interested individuals.

The primary responsibilities of the Junior Development Officer are to:

  • Conduct the Schools’ Championships
  • Coordinate the attendance at junior and youth events, including NSW squad trials
  • Coordinate coaches and referees to attend schools for handball-related sessions
  • Improve opportunities for junior and youth players to become involved in handball

Given the above responsibilities, the ideal candidate will have the ability to teach and demonstrate handball skills, whilst having a strong passion for the sport. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Working With Children Check.

In the past five years solid foundations have been set and it is essential that we continue to build upon these. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop on this success. September – Call for NSW U14 & U16 players

The Australian Youth Championships are being held in Sydney on November 8-9. We’re just finalising the last details for NSW trials for U14 & U16 Girls and Boys. Initial training starts Sunday 14 September at SOPA Sports Halls from 7-9:30 pm. All players in this age group are welcome to trial.

June – NSW hosts Junior Championships in July

NSW is hosting the 2014 Junior Championships over the weekend of July 12-13 at the newly refurbished Valentine Park at Glenwood. Teams from ACT, Queensland and NSW will compete across U18 and U21 categories. The camp will also be preceded with a National Junior Women’s Squad camp at the venue on the Thursday and Friday. Wishing all teams safe travel and best wishes and congratulations to all those seeking to being chosen to represent NSW!

June – NSWHA supports Play by the Rules

NSW Handball endorses the Play by the Rules as part of the ASC Integrity in Sports initiative. Exec member, office holders and officials are encouraged to undertake the online course suite covering Child Protection, Harassment and Discrimination and this is being phased in as a requirement in 2014. June – Junior Training and Selection Camp

Training and Selection camps for Boys and Girls Under 18 (born 1996 or later) and Under 21 (born 1993 or later) teams will be conducted at the Sports Halls at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June.

Both boy’s teams will be training on Saturday from 1-3 pm and on Sunday from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm

Both girl’s teams will be training on Saturday from 3-5 pm and on Sunday from 11am-1pm and 3-5 pm

Cost for the camp will be $15 each (payable on the day) and other details for the Championships will be available from the coaches during the camps.

All players are welcome to attend these trials

April – 2014 Draw Available

The NSW Handball League for 2014 commences on 17th May at Sydney Olympic Park. All players MUST be registered with NSW Handball by the Wednesday before games are played and the same applies for additional registrations.

It is pleasing to see an additional Women’s team in the competition as well as the introduction of a Men’s team from UNSW.

March – Sydney Uni for SuperGlobe Oceania qualifier

NSW Club team Sydney University have won the inaugural Australian Men’s Indoor Handball Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park between March 14-16. Sydney Uni and Hills Heat handball competed in the group of five teams from 3 States. Hills Heat placed third in an exciting weekend of handball. Second placing team St Kilda, Victoria will also compete in the Oceania event in New Caledonia in June. February – Player EOIs for National squads due Feb 25

Just a quick reminder that EOIs (Expressions of Interest) are due this Saturday for players seeking to be considered for Handball Australia national squads. Squads are Women’s, Youth (U18) Women & Men, Junior (U21) Women & Men – though actual age limits may vary pending competition events and Youth/Junior may be combined. We’re also seeking interest from Boys born between 1996-1998 for an additional possible opportunity.
