February – NSW Sports Federation award for Handball Founder

NSW and Australian Handball founder Aleksandar (Sasha) Dimitric and NSW President were recognised at the 2010 NSW Sports Federation Annual Sports Awards held on 6 February 2011.

Sasha Dimitric was one of the recipients of the Distinguished Long Service Awards presented by the NSW Sports Federation. The award recognises contribution to a sport for at least thirty years.  In 1974 Sasha formed and became President of NSWHA.  His hard work and lobbying led Australia to become the 100th member of the International Handball Federation (IHF) in 1988. In 1993, he was elected to the newly created Oceania Handball Federation and was awarded OHF Life Membership in 2003.  In 1998, Sasha was also a recipient of the IHF Silver Merit Award.  He is also a Life Member of the AHF and was instituted in the New South Wales Handball Association Hall of Fame in 2010.

NSWHA’s President Scott Fearnside was also acknowledged as a finalist for the Administrator Award for his contribution to building handball, including being the President of the NSWHA in the last four years.

We look forward to further participating in future awards and seeing our participants recognised for their fine work. Well done NSW Handball (and thanks to Violi for her report).
