The U18 girls trialled alongside the U21 women for selection in the combined NSW Junior Women’s team. Congratulations to all the girls who trialled and to those who have been selected to compete at the 2014 Junior National Championships, which will be held on July 12 & 13 at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood.
Meet the Coach – Victoria Brunsberg
Victoria began playing handball at the age of 10, while she was living with her family in Sweden. There, her dedication and skill earned her selection in both the youth and junior Uppland state teams.
In 2009, ‘Tori’ moved to Australia to play with the National Women’s team and competed at both the Oceania Qualifier tournament held in Brisbane (where she earned the Highest Goalscorer award) and the World Championships in China in that same year. In 2010 she competed at the Junior World Championships in South Korea and with that team achieved Australia’s first women’s World Championship match win.
Tori represented NSW at the National Championships in Melbourne in 2010 as well as at the Junior National Championships in Brisbane in 2011, where she completely ruptured her ACL, which put her handball career on hold.
Tori returned to handball in 2013, competing at the National Beach Handball Championships in Sydney, before gaining selection in the Women’s Beach Handball team to compete at the World Games in Columbia. While working hard on the sand, she also gained re-selection in the Women’s Handball team to compete at the Oceania Qualifier tournament in New Zealand, before travelling to Serbia for the World Championships late last year. Upon returning home to Australia, Tori travelled to Perth to compete with the mixed and women’s division champion teams (both from NSW) at the 2014 National Beach Handball Championships.
Her extensive handball knowledge and experience, along with her hard working and dedicated nature well equips her for her role as the NSW Junior Women’s team coach and will enable her to best prepare the NSW team for the Junior National Championships in Sydney this July.
