October – Training to Start for Junior Tournament

Selection trials and training for the Summer Showdown Stephen Harbourt Cup against Queensland on 7-9 December will begin at Sydney Olympic Park. Any junior player interested in trialling for this competition needs to show up for these sessions.
Coaches will advise of other training/fitness sessions.

October – Australian Junior Men and Women Oceania Champs

Australia won both the Junior Women and Men’s titles at the Oceania Challenge held in Samoa between October 1-7, sponsored by the International Handball Federation (IHF). Huge congratulations to the players, officials and suuporters, espcially all those from NSW. See the women’s reports on the AHF site at www.handballaustralia.org.au Men’s to hopefully follow soon. Congratulations also to the 2 sets of Australian Referees officiating in the Oceania event. They were all from NSW – Richard Ridley, Adrian Van Bussel, Robert Ridley and James Ridley.

October – Silver and Bronze for NSW Seniors

NSW takes Silver in the Men’s (narrowly losing to Gold Medalist’s Victoria by 1 point) and Bronze in Women’s at the Senior Australian Championships in Adelaide. Congratulations to players, officials and supporters who did us all proud. The competition was extremely even with most matches real cliffhangers – well done to our players who put in solid effort throughout all games. Congratulations also to Tomasz Szklarski who was named the Men’s Most Valuable PLayer (MVP) – he also coached both teams at the titles.

October – NSW Men in final, Women in 3/4 playoff

NSW Handball had a mixed day on the 3rd day of the Australian Senior Handball Nationals, with a win for the boys over QLD 24:20 (12:6). This places them in Sunday’s final against VIC. The girls needed two wins today to make the final and ended with a loss to QLD 11:22 (4:11) and a win against SA 29:26 (14:11). They’ll play for third place on Sunday. Go NSW!

October – Senior Nationals underway in Adelaide

NSW Senior players are working hard at the Nationals being held in Adelaide. The event runs Thursday October 4 to Sunday October 7.

Day 1, Oct 4 saw the Men play WA Men, winning 32: 20 (15:12). Day 2 saw two games, with the first against SA for another win at 39:18 (20:9). Next was a tougher session againt Victoria and going down 30:22 (15:10).

The women went into the competition as defending champions. Day 1 was a rest day, with their first game on the Friday against WA and winning 31:10 (16:4) woemn. The session stated at 7am with a quick segment on Channel 10 Breakfast Show. Later that morning they also lost to Victoria 9:23 (5:12), so will be well motivated for the remainder of the competition. Go NSW!

Congratulations to our NSW players representing Australia in the Oceania IHF Challenge being hosted in Samoa between October 1-7. Australia has been performing strongly and we’re looking forward to bringing you more detailed reports.

Boris and Nanna (the men’s and women’s national beach handball team coaches) will be travelling the country looking for talent!

Don’t worry if you’ve never played beach handball before, it’s easy to learn and instruction will be provided on the day.

While the coaches are looking to select new squad members for the men’s and women’s national squads, everyone is welcome for a fun day of beach handball.

The Australian women’s squad are currently preparing for the World Games in Cali, Columbia in July 2013 and the men’s squad have a qualification tournament in Sydney in February 2013 to qualify for the world games. Please note that to be eligible for selection in the Australian squad you must be an Australian citizen.

September – Senior Men’s training

Senior Men’s training for the National Championships will again be held at the Sports Halls at Sydney Olympic Park on Tuesday night from 7:30 to 9:00pm. Anyone interested in trying out for this team is invited to attend.
The championships will be held in Adelaide from 4th to 7th October
