June – Aussie Women play Mexico

The Australian Women’s team begins competition today in Almaty, Kazakhstan June 15-17 for the Four Nations event, representing Oceania as part of the World Championships pathway.

Congratulations to the NSW players in the team – Kayla Zissler (ACT/Sydney Uni), Victoria Brunsberg and Alice Keighley. Also with the team is NSW based Manager Anthony Keyes, and Assistant Coach (and former Sydney Uni player) Mariko Ikeda.

The first match is against Mexico today. We send the team our best wishes for a fantastic event!

June – Call for interested NSW Rep players

Urgent call for players interested in trialling for NSW reams for:
– Junior Women and Men – U18/U21 for event Brisbane July 31-August 2
– Youth Women and Men – U14/U16 for event Canberra
August 14-16
– Seniors Women and Men – Open for event October 8-11

April – Change of venue for May NSWHA AGM

The NSW Handball AGM is to be held Wednesday May 13

There has been a change of location. The AGM will now be held at 7pm at Dooley’s Waterview cnr Clyde St and Silverwater Rd Silverwater. Supper will be supplied,

Clubs are asked to send representatives please and pass this message onto any parents or other members who may be interested in helping. There are Board and Committee positions to be filled. There’s lots to do and we are extremely short staffed for the activities we need to support. We have a range of positions (such as Uniform Manager, Team Managers & Coordinators etc) and are happy to mentor interested persons as we grow together!

All members are welcome! Please RSVP to bronwyn@nswhandball.com.au so we can ensure catering numbers and suitably sized venue.

Looking for an indoor, non-weather dependant sport this winter? There still time to join a handball team for 2015

Clubs are nominating their numbers of teams this weekend and some are still looking for female and male players, so it’s not too late to be in touch. But be quick to be included. March – Sydney Uni Men win Northern Club Champs

Defending Oceania Club Champions Sydney University had an undefeated weekend at All Sorts Sports in Alexandria to become the Northern Club Champions. They played teams from Queensland and ACT. The final ranking was Sydney University, Canberra University, Queensland University and Logan Wizards (QLD). Its the start of the season for most clubs so best wishes everyone after such a solid start to club handball in 2015. Congratulations Sydney Uni.

March – Working with Children Check required by volunteers from April 1

NSW Handball volunteers and officials working with juniors will need to apply for Working with Children Check from April 1. From this date all NSW Handball members working and/or interacting with children and young people in their teams and activities will need to provide evidence of this clearance. Its a free process for volunteers.

The Office of the Children’s guardian says…
A Working With Children Check is a prerequisite for anyone in child-related work. It involves a national criminal history check and review of findings of workplace misconduct. The Check is fully portable which means it can be used for any paid or unpaid child-related work in NSW for as long as the worker remains cleared.

March – Australian Men’s Northern Conference Club Champs Mch 28-29

The Australian Men’s Club Championships for the Northern zone are being held at the All Sorts Centre in Alexandria.

The top clubs from ACT, NSW and Queensland will compete for the title and as part of the qualification pathway for the 2015 Super Globe.

Current National and Oceania champions, Sydney University Handball Club will be hoping to defend their title and should face strong opposition from Canberra HC, Brisbane’s Logan Wizards and University of Queensland.

March – NSW Saturday season to start May 2

December – Both Aussie Men and Women in Oceania IHF Trophy finals

Both the U19 Women and the U20 Men won their semi-final matches ensuring them places in tomorrow’s finals of the 2014 Oceania IHF Trophy. The matches are being played in Wellington New Zealand.

The U19 women won against Vanuatu today (28-11) continuing their progress after a 12:6 halftime score. The U20 men were one goal down at halftime 8:9 against New Caledonia before settling to a two goal lead and then holding it (23:21). Congratulations to the teams (and our NSW members participating). Best wishes in the finals tomorrow!
